The Art of the Handmade Carpet
A fine carpet is not bought. It is found.
Gereh & Naqsh is a curated house of fine handmade carpets: attributed pieces with documented provenance.
01 · The House
Not a retailer. Not a warehouse. A connoisseur's house.
Gereh is the knot, the physical foundation of every handmade carpet. Naqsh is the design. It is the vision the maker brings to the loom. Together, these words describe the two essential arts of carpet making: the weaving and the drawing.
Few carpets, presented slowly. The carpet itself remains the colour.
The makers
The loom is where the designer’s vision meets the weaver’s hands. But they do not work alone. Behind every great carpet is a master dyer, a precise dotter, and a producer who guides the entire process from cartoon to finished piece.
Provenance
We look for the maker, the designer, and the signature. Before we offer an opinion on a piece, we establish its facts.
The piece
We document everything we can. When you enquire about a piece, we share its full provenance, material details, and a complete photographic record.
