A Lachak-toranj, or medallion and corner, on a deep cochineal-red field, the design the makers call the Peacock. A blue lobed medallion with an ivory heart sits at the centre, and around it the field is alive with peacocks and fish among flowering vine, the long tail feathers drawn out in green and blue across the red ground. Fine kork wool and silk pile on a silk foundation. The work of a father and son, Jaafar Gholi and Ali Dadkhah, a documented design house of Isfahan, and signed Dadkhah. It carries a certificate from the Iran National Carpet Center.

Jaafar Gholi Dadkhah was born in Isfahan in 1947, and is among the most distinguished carpet designers of his generation. He is a scholar-artist of the loom, whose name carries the authority of true learning. Read more

He found his calling at the Isfahan School of Fine Arts, taught carpet design there for three decades, and was honoured with the nation’s Grade One Art Certificate, the equivalent of a doctorate. The tradition continues through his son, Ali, a university lecturer in carpet studies.
