An all-over Afshan: a flowing lattice of blossom and vine across a warm wheat field, framed by a mocha border of palmette and scrolling leaf. The field is strewn with flowers worked in silk, each bloom raised in fine, lustrous pile that catches the light against the matte wool ground, so the whole surface shifts and glows as you move around it. Wool and silk pile on a silk foundation, finely knotted and signed at both ends.

Born in 1932 in the village of Jasb, Grand Master Aghagol Mir Mehdi has given some seven decades to his art. He began as a youth of sixteen, weaving wool carpets in his homeland, before moving to the holy city of Qom and devoting himself to the finest pure silk. Read more
